The wife says i'm fat.
Also, my blood sugar was a little high on a screening and I fear diabetes.
And I'm not getting any younger.
Time to get fit. This blog will chronicle my progress from a baseline toward my goals by executing against the approach.
Baseline:
As of 1/20/2013, I am 185 lbs, do negligible exercise (i occasionally bike with my young children), and eat 4 overlarge meals of reasonable foods.
Goals:
1. not die by 40
2. enjoy some benefit of strength, endurance, health.
3. stick it to the wife by gaining an Adonis-like physique and trading her in for the inevitable throng of adoring gym floozies.
4. not give up immediately.
Approach:
Exercise regularly, eat no sweets during the week, reduce to 3 meals per day.
Adonis-like physique? Yeah, that'll show me.

Update:
ReplyDeleteA recent physical put me at very low risk for diabetes or a heart event in the next 10 years. Good progress on point #1.
I have gotten much, much better at jogging and swimming, and a little better at lifting. Decent progress on #2.
I've lost about 10 lbs despite gaining muscle, am visibly slimmer, and my clothes are looser. Half progress on goal #3.
It's been 4 months, and I've exercised 3.94 days a week for the last 18 weeks, which i consider success in goal #4, but I'll keep going.
Hey - this blog is still here! It's been about 10 years and I'm still alive (I survived crossing 40... and then some).
ReplyDeleteAfter some roller-coastering weight (as high as 205), I'm at a local minimum of around 173. I'm not lifting heavy right now, but I can do 20 pull-ups or 40 push-ups and trail-run 5 miles in 55 mins.
Going strong!
